Hipshack is a "Rock-Funk-Soul-Jazz-Jam-Variety Power Group" that performs the music of such artists as: U2, Van Morrison, Bruce Hornsby, the Police/Sting, Peter Gabriel, Sly and the Family Stone, Coldplay, Stevie Wonder, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, Dave Matthews Band, Eric Clapton, SRV, Jimmi Hendrix, Stone Temple Pilots, Prince and John Mayer to Maroon 5, James Brown, John Scofield, the Funky Meters, John Coltrane and Miles Davis. These talented musicians tightly incorporate a large variety of styles to create the unique groove of Hipshack.
Jeff Hartman and Friends
Jeff Hartman and Friends play the original music of Jeff Hartman with Jeff on keyboards and vocals, Scott McCloud on bass and vocals, Jeremy Shaw on guitar and vocals, and Brian Burton on drums. Sometimes rock, sometimes pop, sometimes folk other times funk, with soaring vocals laced together with melodies that never leave you. Nevertheless, it can only be described as Jeff Hartman’s eclectic blend. In the tradition of Bruce Hornsby and Dave Matthews, Jeff has carved out an impressive place for himself on the live music circuit, having appeared with a variety of musicians as Scott Jeffrey's Band approximately 200 dates yearly for half a decade.
The Full Grown Band
The Full Grown Band is vocalist Angie Rikard, with Matt Hatfield on guitar and vocals, Jeremy Shaw on guitar and vocals, Dave Vergato on bass, and Curtis Wingfield on drums. The combination of Angie's untiring presence and fiery voice has been described as Patsy Cline meets Janis Joplin. This band genuinely enjoys its work and has been cranking out new southern rock anthems and gutsy blues tunes fashioned in their own style. Look for a new CD out by summer!
Spincycle
Spincycle is Jeremy Shaw on guitar and vocals, Rob MacWilliams on bass and vocals, Ben Davenport on keyboards and vocals, and Adam Snow on drums. The line-up is almost the same as The Hank Smith Group, and often features Hank. This group will be releasing their long-awaited full-length CD sometime this spring.
The Hank Smith Group
The Hank Smith Group is Hank Smith (Barefoot Manner) on banjo, Jeremy Shaw (Ponder Banks & Shaw, Fullgrown Band) on guitar and vocals, Rob MacWilliams (Pocketful of Strange) on bass, and Adam Snow (Greenlight) on drums. Although, all of these musicians are known for playing with other bands, they come together in this setting to really stretch out on their original, and select cover tunes. Look for the new Hank Smith solo CD coming soon.
Ponder Banks and Shaw
Ponder Banks and Shaw is Cory Ponder on drums, Brett Banks on bass, and Jeremy Shaw on guitar. Their music is built on strong melodies interspersed with heavily improvised explorations. Their sound is an eclectic mix of funk, rock, blues, jazz, country, swing and fusion. Ponder Banks and Shaw have been compared to the Dixie Dregs, Wayne Krantz, and the Aquarium Rescue Unit. Their 2004 debut release, PBS, is entirely instrumental, highlighting their passion for improvisational rock, jazz, and fusion.
Sophisticats
At its core, the Sophisticats is a jazz trio consisting of Fred Hiscock on sax/flute and vocals, Jeremy Shaw on guitar, and Gary Marcus on keyboards. They often add bass and drums to form a full jazz combo. The Sophisticats are an extremely versatile band and can play anything from classical music by Bach and Beethoven, to jazz standards, to improvisational fusion and funk.
